Recovery From Breast Augmentation

Recovery time from breast augmentation surgery can depend on your overall health before and after the operation. If you are in good health the recovery time will be fairly quick. With only one night in hospital in most cases a lot of women are able to return to work within two to three days depending on the job at hand (more physical jobs may require a longer time to recover first). This could also depend on the stitching you have used (between dissolvable and those that will need to be removed). You will discuss with your surgeon when you feel would be the best time to return to your daily routine.

After the surgery, when the surgeon has stitched up the incision with what are often dissolvable sutures, you will need to make sure your breasts are well supported with the use of a sports bra. Your surgeon is likely to advise this to remain in place for twenty four hours a day for up to three months. If the stitches you have are not dissolvable, you will likely have them removed around a week after the surgery.

Directly after your breast augmentation surgery, you may find that your breasts feel tired, firm and swollen. As you might expect, this is normal and this will settle down in time, eventually adapting and feeling more natural and comfortable. After around two days you will start to notice a difference and movement might become easier, though for three to four weeks you should avoid anything too strenuous as there will still be some soreness. After this period swelling will start to disappear and your breasts will feel less painful to touch.

The scars where the incision was initially made will be pink and noticeable, feeling quite firm at first and will stay like this for around six weeks. After some months go by they will decrease in size, however you should be prepared for the scarring to remain for around two years before fading.

If there are any discrepancies during your recovery such as bleeding, pains in your chest or any issues with your heart beat you should contact your doctor straight away.
